Small Businesses Can Get Reimbursed for Building Improvements

September 3, 2025

Small businesses can apply for up to $50,000 to reimburse costs for building improvements or purchasing new furniture, fixtures, and equipment through the Small Business Improvement Grant. The program has awarded close to $13 million to over 500 New Jersey businesses since February. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until funding is exhausted. Current processing time is 8 months from the application date.

Important Changes to Property Transfer Fees

September 3, 2025

New graduated transfer fee rates apply to real estate transactions over $1 million, with rates ranging from 1% to 3.5% based on sale price. The fee is now paid by the seller instead of the buyer. Rates are: 1% ($1M-$2M), 2% ($2M-$2.5M), 2.5% ($2.5M-$3M), 3% ($3M-$3.5M), and 3.5% (over $3.5M). Limited refund opportunities exist for transactions with contracts executed before July 10, 2025 and recorded by November 15, 2025. Refund claims must be filed within one year of recording.

Boost Employee Ownership with NJEDA’s ESOP Assistance Program

Eligible companies with at least 20 full-time employees can now apply for the ESOP Assistance Program from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), which supports transitions to employee stock ownership plans. Important Update for Employers

Pay Transparency is now the law in New Jersey! The New Jersey pay and benefits transparency law went into effect June 1, 2025.

The new law changes job posting requirements for most employers in New Jersey:

  • Employers will now have to provide information about the pay, benefits, and other compensation programs that they are offering in their postings for new jobs and transfer opportunities.
  • Employers must make reasonable efforts to ensure all current employees in affected departments are aware of promotional opportunities.
  • The law covers job postings in any format, including job search websites, print advertisements, company newsletters, emails, social media, and more.

Pay Transparency helps employers attract, recruit, and retain the talent they rely on.

Advance Clean Tech Innovation with CSIT’s Seed Grant Program

June 20, 2025

Apply for up to $75,000 to support your clean technology projects with the Clean Tech R&D Seed Grant Round 4. This initiative from the New Jersey Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology (CSIT)  is designed to accelerate the development of technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Eligible New Jersey-based companies with up to 50 full-time employees can apply. Projects must focus on clean technologies that avoid or recapture greenhouse gases in areas like energy efficiency, green buildings, and waste processing. Applications are due by July 11, 2025.

Zero Emission Vehicles Now Subject to Tax

Zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) are now subject to sales and use taxes in New Jersey. ZEVs incur a 3.3125% reduced tax rate until July 2025, when they will transition to the standard rate of 6.625%.

Outdoor Dining Permissions Will Not Expire

December 12, 2024

Restaurants and certain retailers or manufacturers of alcoholic beverages may continue to use fixtures such as tents, canopies, umbrellas, tables, and chairs in designated outdoor spaces or on public sidewalks. A new law has made permanent the temporary outdoor dining rule changes adopted in February 2021. Holders of temporary expansion permits issued by the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) may convert their temporary permit into a permanent permit at their next annual renewal.

El programa Pre-Aprendizaje en Educación Profesional (PACE, por sus siglas en inglés) tiene como objetivo adaptar mejor la educación secundaria, postsecundaria, de adultos y la formación ocupacional para satisfacer las demandas laborales exclusivas de Nueva Jersey y desarrollar trayectorias profesionales que conduzcan a salarios económicamente sostenibles.

Los programas financiados a través de PACE proporcionan educación y formación conduciendo a alguno de los siguientes resultados:

  1. Admisión a un programa de Aprendizaje Registrado del USDOL
  2. Admisión a una facultad de educación postsecundaria, o formación profesional específica
  3. Empleo con un salario inicial no inferior a los $15 por hora

Programa de Mejora de Centros de Cuidado Infantil
